Nov 28, 2015 My house has a NEMA 14-30 dryer outlet and I bought a Camco NEMA 14-50 extension off Amazon and realized it doesnt fit because the Neutral prong is different. From what I read on another thread I have heard its possible to remove the Neutral prong on the extension cord as the Tesla UMC doesnt use the neutral.

James, you should not wire a NEMA 14-20P Dryer Cord into a 20 amp outlet because of the following The dryer and the cord are rated for 30 amps which will overload the 20 amp outlet. The 20 amp circuit wiring you are describing is not the right size for a 240 volt electric dryer.

Sep 24, 2018 The better thing to do would be to run a new cable with four wires and install a four-wire receptacle, such as a NEMA 14-30P. That would conform to current codes because it has a separate ground wire. However, if you love your old dryer, and its cord has only three prongs, you might want to go ahead and install a three-wire receptacle anyway.
